Who it's for
- Surveyors checking where a control point or site is before going out
- Landowners and buyers sharing the exact location of a plot
- Anyone who needs to send an exact meeting point or delivery pin
Getting a precise point
- Zoom right in on the satellite view before clicking: at street level a click is within a metre or two.
- My location uses your phone or computer's location. The blue circle shows how accurate it is — a phone outdoors with GPS is usually within 5–10 m; a computer on Wi-Fi can be off by hundreds of metres. It is not survey grade.
- The satellite picture itself can be a few metres off in some places, so check against a known mark when it matters.
What the numbers mean
All values are on WGS 84, the datum GPS and Google Maps use. The light blue band on the map is the point's UTM zone. To convert a whole list, use lat/long ↔ UTM or open the web app.
Questions
How accurate is My location?
It is whatever your device reports. A phone outdoors with GPS is usually within 5–10 m and the accuracy is shown on the map as a circle; a laptop on Wi-Fi can be hundreds of metres off. It is not survey grade.
Which datum are the coordinates on?
WGS 84 — the same as GPS, Google Maps and Google Earth. The UTM values are WGS 84 UTM (EPSG:326xx north, 327xx south).
Is my location sent anywhere?
No. The coordinates are worked out in your browser. Only a place search is sent to OpenStreetMap to find the place, and the map pictures come from the map provider.
Can I get coordinates for many points at once?
Use the lat/long ↔ UTM or DMS converters for pasted lists, or the Excel to KML web app for a whole spreadsheet.
More free tools
- DMS ↔ decimal degreesConvert degrees, minutes and seconds such as 25°11'35"N to decimal degrees and back — one value or a whole list pasted from Excel.
- Lat/long ↔ UTMConvert latitude and longitude to UTM easting, northing and zone on WGS 84, or UTM back to latitude and longitude. The zone is worked out for you.
- Distance and bearingThe distance and bearing between two points from latitude and longitude on the WGS 84 ellipsoid, or from eastings and northings on a grid — plus the point at a given bearing and distance.
- Plot area from coordinatesPaste the corners of a plot as eastings and northings or latitude and longitude and get its area in m², hectares, acres, kanal and marla, with the perimeter.
- Slope and gradientWork out a slope from rise and run, or convert between percent grade, degrees and 1 in N — for roads, drains, ramps and roofs.
- Land area unitsConvert land and floor areas between square metres, square feet, acres, hectares, kanal, marla, feddan, dunam, guntha and cents.
